Police explain how to obtain clearance certificates

Colombo, Sept. 30 (Daily Mirror) - Police clearance certificates are issued for both domestic and overseas purposes. For domestic purposes, applicants can obtain certificates from local police stations by submitting an application letter along with a copy of their National Identity Card, a valid driver’s license, or a valid passport. Police stations provide a sample application form to assist applicants.

Government-approved fees for domestic certificates are as follows: certificates issued by local police stations cost Rs. 500, while certificates issued by Police OICs for domestic purposes only cost Rs. 300. Fingerprint verification, if required, carries a fee of Rs. 500. Receipts (Form 172) are issued after payment.

For overseas purposes, police clearance certificates must be obtained online through the Police Clearance Division. Applications can be submitted via www.police.lk with an approved fee of Rs. 5,000.

For overseas purpose the cost of certificate must cost less, since those who seek foreign jobs are contributors to the economy. The government must consider concessions for overseas job Clearance Certificate.

Adwani had made a very good point for the government to consider. Those seeking certificates to support their foreign employment must have a discount and those who seek these for migration purposes can be asked to pay the Rs5000

Don’t cry about everything that has a cost and expect it for a next to nothing fee! That’s the whole issue in this country, One will buy a 25km train ticket for 80/- and expect air conditioned coaches. And the same person will have a couple of cigarettes a day and eat a ‘rice’ for about 500/- when a decent mean can be had for almost half!

The cost of Rs5.,000.00 for overseas purpose is high. Afterall those who go to overseas for employment props up this country. Very unfair.
