Personal assets of those who strike if they commit an offence will be confiscated under the Essential Services Act No 61 of 1979, a Member of Parliament said yesterday.
MP Vajira Abeywardena said a person who commits an offence under this Act could also be subjected to two years of rigorous imprisonment. “A person found guilty of an offence under the Essential Services act could be subjected to a fine which is not less than Rs 2000 and not exceed Rs 5,000,” he said, citing sections six and seven of the Act.
Also, he revealed that President has already signed a gazette notification declaring all transportation services, the Port and air transportation as essential services.
“One should keep in mind the essential services Act and work accordingly,” he added.(Yohan Perera)

The "essential services Act " applies to MPs as well. Since MPs have violated this by doing the entrusted task in an incompetence way only, the country has fallen into this crisis.

Noncompliance of the law has to be dealt with, but why not confiscate properties of the corrupt politicians and that of the officials and bribe takers. If this happens, confiscation of properties of those who strike could be justified.
