People want cost of living answers, not arrest commentary: Namal

Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa has urged the government to focus on addressing the rising cost of living instead of discussing arrests and investigations in Parliament.

In a statement, Namal said the public was looking to the President for solutions to the economic hardships faced by families across the country rather than commentary on ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.

He argued that the President should not use Parliament to predict arrests, investigations or court outcomes, adding that if there were cases to be investigated, the legal process should be allowed to proceed independently.

“If there are cases, let the law take its course. We are ready to face any investigation and any legal process because we have faith in the justice system, and we are not running away from anything,” he said.

Namal claimed that many families were struggling under increasing living costs, with rising prices and household expenses placing significant pressure on the public.

He also accused the government of failing to fulfil its promises of good governance, alleging that questions had emerged regarding corruption and the conduct of certain ministers.

The SLPP MP further alleged that ministers were being accused of accumulating wealth and properties without adequate accountability, while authorities were not acting on allegations involving members of the government.

Namal said the President should focus on addressing the cost of living crisis, economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens and public concerns over corruption rather than commenting on arrests and court cases.

“The people want answers to the rising cost of living and the economic pressures they face every day. That is the crisis the country wants addressed,” he said.
