People asked not to get vaccinated before recovery

The Health authorities urged people not to get the COVID-19 vaccine before they recover from the viral infection.

Addressing a news briefing, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said some people tend to receive the vaccine when they are infected and soon after they recover from the vaccine.

“It is of no use if one gets vaccinated while he/she is infected with the virus. Therefore, it is recommended to get vaccinated two weeks after recovery,” he added.

Also, Dr. Herath requested the recovered patients not to wait too long but to get the vaccines after 14 days in order to get optimum results.

Meanwhile, he said Sri Lanka is not out of the woods as yet though restrictions were lifted.

“The country cannot afford to go back to months long curfews and restrictions. We have to move on,” he said.

“Therefore, we urge people to strictly follow health guidelines and practices in order to prevent another wave in the country,” Dr. Herath added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
