Colombo, Feb. 29 (Daily Mirror)- The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today alleged that court cases that are pending against Deshabandu Thennekoon should have been considered when appointing him as the IGP.
"A person who is facing a number of court cases has been appointed as the IGP for the first time in Sri Lankan history. Court cases that are pending should have been considered when making the appointment," SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said in a statement today.
"The present IGP is charged as a suspect for the dissappearence of cash found at President's House during the Aragalaya. Human rights petitions have been filed against him for alledgedly harassing journalists," he added.
Also, he said Tennekoon has been appointed by violating the Constitution.

...And till court proceedings are over does the SJB want this country to run without an IGP? They might even say this govt can't even appoint an IGP on time. hahaha.

In a way this is good. The West will say our justice system is not up to international level. We give ourselves demonstrated evidences.

Did you consider Sajith's qualifications before appointing Sajith as vikata Nayaka?
Onlooker Thursday, 29 February 2024 05:06 PM
It is not the qualification that disqualifies new IGP but the very serious cases pending against him. If an MP can be debarred from Parliament for 3 years jail, how can a Police Officer be promoted who has abused human rights which is a fundamental right of every citizen.

Looks all the prev regimes had either failed, robbed, looted, tampered …………… and not even giving a chance for the other. Why not give chance to Sumandhiran?

Banana republic and a waste of time complaining. Best to approach International Court of Justice to get a proper verdict and inform the entire world what’s happening in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka the only qualification for a high government post is that you should be an obedient minion of the rulers and willing to do any dirty work they ask you to do.
