Pending court cases should have been considered before IGP’s appointment: SJB

Colombo, Feb. 29 (Daily Mirror)- The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today alleged that court cases that are pending against Deshabandu Thennekoon should have been considered when appointing him as the IGP.

"A person who is facing a number of court cases has been appointed as the IGP for the first time in Sri Lankan history. Court cases that are pending should have been considered when making the appointment," SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said in a statement today.

"The present IGP is charged as a suspect for the dissappearence of cash found at President's House during the Aragalaya. Human rights petitions have been filed against him for alledgedly harassing journalists," he added.

Also, he said Tennekoon has been appointed by violating the Constitution.
