The Pathfinder Foundation has inaugurated a dedicated repository to document Sri Lanka’s peace initiatives, aiming to preserve the country’s efforts to resolve the separatist conflict over the decades.
The Repository for Sri Lanka Peace Initiatives was officially opened by Mr. Erik Solheim, former Norwegian Special Envoy to the Sri Lanka peace process, former Minister of the Environment and International Development of Norway, and former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The inauguration was held at the invitation of Milinda Moragoda, Founder, and Bernard Goonetilleke, Chairman of the Pathfinder Foundation, both of whom were principal negotiators in the peace process.
Sri Lanka has repeatedly sought to resolve the separatist conflict through negotiations over several decades, but despite numerous initiatives, no effort succeeded in bringing the conflict to a conclusive settlement. While several local and international publications and institutions—including SCOPP and Norwegian facilitators—maintain records of the peace process, a consolidated repository bringing together these materials had long been absent.
The Pathfinder Foundation’s new repository seeks to fill this gap by collecting and preserving documentation on all peace initiatives, including records of negotiations that did not reach a final agreement. The project will gather relevant materials from both local and international sources to ensure comprehensive preservation of Sri Lanka’s peace efforts.
