Parliament renovations to be done by police, army



Colombo, May 23 (Daily Mirror) - The Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee has approved the ongoing renovation works of the Parliament building to be carried out with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Police.

The Parliament Media Unit said priority renovation activities such as repairing the leaks in the roof of the Parliament building, rectifying the operating mechanism of the main copper door, expanding sanitary facilities, upgrading the Parliamentary Medical Center, and installing a Fire Detection System are to be carried out with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Police.

The Daily Mirror reported this week that the Parliament building has been officially identified as requiring significant maintenance and structural upgrades with a total estimated cost of Rs. 5 billion solely for roof repairs.
