Sri Lanka can go for a general election anytime now as the present Parliament has completed two and a half years of its term as of midnight on Monday.
As per the 20th Amendment of the constitution, the President is able to dissolve the House when the legislature completes two and a half years of its term.
The President is given the power to dissolve the House under article 70 of the constitution.
This has been made possible by the 20th Amendment to the constitution. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

It is preferable to go for a general election than the LG election or conduct on the same day, both the elections, this was not tried any where in the world, which would also require more man power, logistical planning etc; another salient point is who is going to interact with the international community?

Right thing the President do is to dissolve the Parliament and go for an election, this will lead even Ranil to be as President for another five years..

We need a change, and the Parliament should be dissolved, that is the right move.
