Colombo, Nov. 20 (Daily Mirror) - A suspicious parcel sent from Thailand on November 10 has resulted in a major narcotics seizure after officials at the Central Mail Exchange Office intercepted it on suspicion of containing illicit substances.
Police said officers of the Homicide and Organized Crime Division of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau carried out an extensive investigation today and uncovered more than 30kg of narcotics concealed inside the package. The stock is valued at nearly Rs. 300 million, according to initial estimates.
Investigations have revealed that the parcel had been dispatched by a suspect from the Alubomulla Arukgoda area in Panadura. It had been addressed to an old house in Piliyandala, believed to be a property previously owned by the suspect.
Authorities said further investigations are underway to identify others linked to the smuggling operation, while coordination with international units is ongoing to trace the origin and trafficking route of the narcotics.
