A Pakistan Air Force C-130 aircraft carrying emergency relief supplies and a specialised search and rescue team arrived in Sri Lanka last evening (03), as part of a large-scale humanitarian operation launched by the Government of Pakistan in response to the widespread destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The cargo was officially received by Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku and handed over by the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Colombo.
According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a 47-member elite Pakistan Army search and rescue unit, along with 6.5 tonnes of equipment, was dispatched on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The shipment includes family tents, blankets, quilts, life jackets, inflatable boats, de-watering pumps, lamps, mats, mosquito nets, infant milk powder, ready-to-eat meals and essential medicines.
