PET scan services to resume after shortage of key chemical resolved

Colombo, May 5 (Daily Mirror) - PET scan services, which had been suspended since March 27 due to a shortage of the radioactive chemical FDG, are set to resume from tomorrow (May 6).

Accordingly, the services will resume tomorrow at the National Hospital Colombo.

Furthermore, services are also scheduled to restart on May 8 at the Apeksha Hospital Maharagama.

Health officials said patients requiring the scans have already been prepared for the procedures.

According to the Government Radiological Technologists’ Association, the suspension occurred after delays in registration approvals disrupted the import of the required chemical, preventing any company from bringing it into the country.
