Over 700 acres of land in North, East returned to public: Deputy Minister

Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Over 700 acres of land in the North and the East have been returned to the public, Deputy Minister of Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekera told Parliament today.

Responding to an oral question raised by  MP Pathmanathan Sathyalingam, the Deputy Minister said a total of 672.24 acres of land have been returned to the public in the North as at January 1 2025. 

He  said that  lands include 86.24 acres of private land and 586 acres of land that were used by the military.

Deputy Minister Jayasekara said 34.58 acres of government land have also been released in the East Province.

Referring to the issues pertaining to  lands in the vicinity of the Vavuniya military airport, he said it will be resolved soon.
