Over 6,000 people affected by inclement weather

Over 6,000 people have been affected in several districts owing to adverse weather conditions, stated the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).

As per its situation report, a total of 6,345 people from 1,634 families in 10 districts have been affected so far. The districts include Kalutara, Gampaha, Badulla, Trincomalee, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Puttalam and Kurunegala.

Besides, 87 houses have been partially damaged due to flash floods and strong winds, it said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department forcast that the rainy weather condition will continue in the coming weeks as well. According to the Department, the maximum rainfall of 117.4 mm has been reported from Jaffna. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
