Colombo, Dec. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The National Blood Bank expressed its gratitude to the citizens of Sri Lanka for their overwhelming response to calls for blood donations following Cyclone Ditwah.
Addressing the media today, Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe, Director of the National Blood Bank, said more than 20,000 blood donations were received within just three days.
The appeal had been made to meet the daily requirement of 1,500 donations, but public response has far exceeded expectations.
Dr. Edirisinghe added that the current blood stock is sufficient to meet the country’s needs for the next 15 days, allowing the National Blood Bank to return its operations to normal.
“I would like to thank all the citizens and the media for assisting the National Blood Bank in its time of need,” he said, acknowledging the crucial role of public support in disaster response.
