Opposition and Govt. supporters stage separate protests in Matugama



Colombo, January. 10 (Daily Mirror) - Two separate protests were held today (10) in Matugama, drawing significant public attention as opposing groups demonstrated on different issues.

One protest, organized by women supporters of the government, condemned what they described as atrocities committed against women by the opposition. The demonstration was largely attended by women and saw the participation of several female Members of Parliament representing the ruling National People’s Power (NPP).

Meanwhile, a second protest was staged by the combined opposition, focusing on concerns over alleged harm to children arising from challenges to free education and proposed new education reforms.

Several opposition politicians attended the protest, including Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs Jagath Vithana and Ajith P. Perera, Sarvajana Balaya leader Dilith Jayweera, as well as former ministers Roshan Ranasinghe and Channa Jayasumana.
