Colombo, Dec. 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000 on a supermarket along Glenfall Road after it was found guilty of selling bottled drinking water at a price higher than the government-approved rate.
The ruling, delivered today (10 December 2025), followed the supermarket’s admission of guilt to charging Rs. 130 for a bottle of drinking water, despite the maximum retail price being Rs. 100.
Court officials said the penalty was imposed to deter similar violations and to protect consumers during a period of increased economic pressure.
