Nuwara Eliya PS Chairman, CWC Deputy Leader Velu Yogaraj remanded



Colombo, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha and Deputy Leader of the CWC, Velu Yogaraj, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of corruption, was remanded till April 17 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

He was arrested this morning following an investigation into claims that the Chairman had unlawfully approved a building plan on state-owned land.

According to investigators, the approval had been granted in violation of established legal procedures, including provisions of the Urban Development Authority Act No. 41 of 1978. The incident relates to a plot of state land in the Magoda Grama Niladhari Division in Nuwara Eliya.

The Commission said that the approval was granted in 2021 to provide an undue advantage to a private party, constituting an act of corruption.
