Nobel Committee rejects Machado’s Trump prize share bid

MSN - Nobel Peace Prize laureate and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado expressed her desire to share the Nobel Prize with U.S. President Donald Trump, prompting the Norwegian Nobel Committee—which administers the Nobel Peace Prize—to state, “Once announced, the Nobel Prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to another person.”

The committee clarified in a press release on the 9th, “Once announced, the decision remains permanent.”

It added, “In principle, the committee does not comment on what Nobel Peace Prize laureates say or do after receiving the award,” but noted, “This does not mean the committee does not closely monitor laureates’ subsequent activities. While the committee may not officially express concerns or praise, it continues to pay close attention to their actions.”

Although the committee did not explicitly explain the reason or background for issuing the statement, it was interpreted as targeting Machado, who recently suggested sharing the Nobel Peace Prize with President Trump.

Earlier, in an interview with Fox News, Machado praised President Trump and mentioned her desire to share the prize. She stated, “On behalf of the Venezuelan people, I would like to express how grateful we are for Trump’s courageous mission,” adding, “I would like to share the Nobel Prize with Trump.” Following Machado’s remarks, President Trump responded, “If such an offer were made, it would be a great honor.”
