No security threat to Sri Lanka after explosions in India, Pakistan – Minister

Colombo, Nov 12. (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala has assured that there is no security threat to Sri Lanka in the wake of the recent explosions reported in India and Pakistan.

He said the country’s security situation remains stable due to the active presence and vigilance of Sri Lanka’s intelligence agencies.

“Currently, no information has been revealed about such a threat. The intelligence agencies in Sri Lanka remain active. Our security forces, especially the tri-forces and the police, are particularly attentive to national security. Therefore, there is no issue regarding national security,” the Minister stated.

Meanwhile, responding to reports claiming that underworld figures were planning to return to the country, Minister Wijepala clarified that his earlier remarks had been misinterpreted.

“I did not say that. What I said was that some drug traffickers have expressed their desire to give up drug trafficking. If those involved in such activities wish to leave that path, it is a positive development,” he stated.
