Colombo, March 15 (Daily Mirror) - Despite the introduction of the QR code system for fuel distribution, there is no fuel shortage in the country, said Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Mayura Neththikumara.
Speaking to the media, he said the QR code system was implemented as a precaution after authorities observed people stockpiling fuel and long queues forming at filling stations over the past few days.
“The QR code system was introduced after we noticed people collecting fuel and queues forming over the past three to four days. Otherwise, there is no issue with fuel. The aim is to ensure that people can obtain fuel without having to wait in queues,” he said.
Neththikumara also said that discussions had already been held with several countries, including India and China, regarding the purchase of fuel if an urgent requirement arises, adding that the talks had been successful.
He further said fuel distribution under the QR code system commenced at 6.00 a.m. today (15), with priority initially given to those who had previously obtained a QR code and possess the relevant vehicle along with the registered mobile number.
