No delay in ’’Aswesuma’’ programme due to Chairman’s resignation: Minister



The implementation of the "Aswesuma" programme will not be delayed due to the resignation of the Chairman of the Welfare Benefit Board, as reported in the media.

The board consists of the Chairman and four other members, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said today.

He took to Twitter, stating that former Chairman B. Wijeratne had informed the President that he is resigning from office due to personal reasons and the name of Jayantha Wijeratne, a special grade retired civil servant has been recommended to the Constitutional Council as the new chairman. 

"The resignation of the Welfare Benefit Board chairman will not affect the payments to beneficiaries after completing the requirements, including opening of accounts or starting proceedings for verification of objections and appeals. The eligible candidates are requested to complete the bank requirements as early as possible," he Tweeted.
