Nine top organised criminals behind Ganemulla Sanjeewa’s murder plot, CID reveals to court

Colombo, Nov. 7 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that nine prominent organised criminals were allegedly behind the plot to murder Ganemulla Sanjeewa.

Appearing on behalf of the Colombo Crimes Division, the investigating officer submitted a further progress report and made submissions before court.The officer informed court that statements had been recorded from several suspects who are in remand and under detention orders in connection with the incident.

He further stated that according to these statements, investigations have revealed that six organised criminals were directly involved in the killing of Ganemulla Sanjeewa within the court complex premises.

The officer added that these suspects have been identified as the 28th to 36th suspects in the case. Among the nine organised criminals identified, four are currently being detained and interrogated under detention orders, while another four have fled overseas and are now the subject of ongoing investigations to apprehend them, the officer told court.

He also noted that another suspect is currently in remand custody over a separate case being investigated into by the Peliyagoda Crimes Division and requested court to issue an order to produce that suspect on the next date of hearing.

The officer further informed court that the suspects under detention are being supervised by the Fort Magistrate and that progress reports on the investigations are being submitted to both the Fort Magistrate and Colombo Magistrate’s Court No. 8.

Considering the facts presented, the Chief Magistrate ordered that all suspects be further remanded till November 21 and directed the authorities to immediately arrest and produce before court the suspects who are currently overseas.
