Nine Vietnamese arrested in Poddala fraud bust



Colombo, March 25 (Daily Mirror) - Nine Vietnamese nationals were arrested in the Godakanda area of Poddala on Tuesday (24) for allegedly engaging in online financial fraud, police said.

According to the Police Media Division, the suspects had entered Sri Lanka on tourist visas and were operating a scheme involving fraudulent internet-based money transactions.

The arrests were made during a raid conducted by officers of the Galle Police, following intelligence provided by the Boossa Army Intelligence Unit.

During the operation, police recovered a desktop computer, a laptop and 84 mobile phones believed to have been used in the illegal activities.

The suspects were handed over to the Poddala Police for further investigations and are scheduled to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.
