New salary structure to be introduced for public service: Sub-Committee

Colombo, July 31 (Daily Mirror) - The Sub-Committee appointed to seek solutions to the prevailing salary discrepancies and related issues in the public service is expected to submit proposals for the introduction of a new salary structure for the entire public service.

The proposals are expected to be submitted following a scientific review of the existing positions, related duties and salary scales etc.

A sub-committee was recently appointed under the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, chaired by MP Chandana Sooriyaarachchi, with the objective of seeking solutions to the prevailing salary discrepancies and related issues in the public service.

This decision was made during a recent meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, held in the Parliamentary complex under the chairmanship of Minister A.H.M.H. Abayarathna, and with the participation of Deputy Minister P. Ruwan Senarath and other Members of Parliament.

It was noted during the meeting that the matters related to salaries in the public service are currently governed by Public Administration Circulars 6/2006 and 3/2016. However, the absence of clearly defined duties for various positions in the public service, along with multiple disparities and inconsistencies, has led to dissatisfaction and resulted in various discussions and debates in recent times.

We don’t object any salary increases but consider the productivity as well: many people get salary without coming to work No joke this is true go and see some universities .

Very true, in the Universities the staff get a huge salaries but they don't come for work. In the Up-country, in Tamil schools Jaffna teachers are there but never teach the Estate Tamil Students and they say those students no need education they must go and work in the Estates. First look in to those plights before introducing Public service salary structure.

IT IS VITAL THAT ALL EMPLOYEES HAVE THEIR JOB POSITIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS CLEAR AND IN DETAIL, NO MORE PASSING THE BUCK TO DICK TOM OR HARRY AND ENSURE THAT EACH EMPLOYEE KEEPS THE HEAD OF THEIR DEPT INFORMED ON THE PROGRESS. SITTING AND WARMING CHAIRS, OUT OF PERSONAL SHOPPING ETC DURING WORKING HOURS ARE TABOO. LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST STAFF MUST BE MONITORED TO ENSURE THE TAX PAYERS GET THEIR MONEYS WORTH OUT FROM EACH DEPT.

Since around 2005 the salaries have skyrocketed and more than 50% of the workforce work for government that produce nothing. A gloomy foundation for economic development. Looks like this government is also following the trend by further enlarging the public sector as well as increasing salaries

Yes it should be decided by ministers to categorize salary scale as per their duties not by SLAS crooks. SLAS officers who are in power since 1948 keep talented services such as Custom, Immigration,scientific service,labour service, Registrar services,etc around 12 services under suppressed without a good scale of Salary. Government should decide of their own rather than expecting assistance from Srilanka SLAS or SLPS officers

Vague. What is the salary structure? How will the worker be deemed eligible for increases? If state workers can work a full day without slacking after 12noon then it's worth considering but otherwise they only sham and go home. They deserve to be paid only equal to the amount of work they do in a full day.

Still some public servants just come and register as present but they vanish and come back and mark their off. No one is bothered about their entrusted duties. Most of the employees Mahinda and Gota appointed from Hambantota and Matara for their political gain repeating the same practice. Hon. President, please check all the Rajapakshe appointees and do the needful.
