The naval and fishing communities are advised to be vigilant while engaging in their activities on the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Pottuvil, Hambantota and Matara due to the intensification of the severe cyclonic storm “Mocha” over the East-Central Bay of Bengal, the Meteorological Department said.

Accordingly, naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the sea areas bounded by 05N – 20N and between 83E –100E until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Department forcasts fairly heavy showers above 75mm at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Furthermore, strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can also be expected at times over the island, according to the Meteorological Department. Hence, the public is requested to be alert in this regard. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
