National tea sale average rises in July but declines YoY



Sri Lanka’s national tea sale average for July 2025 was recorded at Rs.1,127.60 (US$ 3.74) per kilogramme, up Rs.24.33 (US$0.06), from June average of Rs.1,103.27 (US$ 3.68), according to the data compiled by Forbes & Walker Research.

Compared to July 2024, the July 2025 average showed a decline of Rs.96.28 (US$ 0.29), from Rs.1,223.88 (US$ 4.03). The total national sale average for the year to date was Rs.1,153.07 (US$ 3.87), down Rs. 105.50 (US$ 0.24) against the corresponding period in 2024, which averaged Rs.1,258.57 (US$ 4.11). By elevation, the High Grown tea prices increased Rs.38.52 (US$ 0.12) month-on-month (MoM) in July but declined Rs.118.01 (US$ 0.36) year-on-year (YoY). The Medium Grown tea saw a decrease of Rs.4.48 (US$ 0.03) compared to June and fell Rs.88.52 (US$ 0.26) compared to July 2024. The Low Grown tea prices rose Rs.19.69 (US$ 0.05) MoM but declined Rs.92.76 (US$ 0.27) YoY.

All regions recorded negative price variances in both Sri Lankan rupees and US dollars during January to July 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
