Namal calls for unity between UNP and SJB

Colombo, Sept. 2 (Daily Mirror) - MP Namal Rajapaksa said it would be beneficial for the United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to unite, noting that every government in history has collapsed due to internal conflicts.

Speaking to the media, he said his party has long urged unity between Ranil Wickremesinghe and the SJB, noting that politics should not be conducted by dividing people but should be free of hatred.

Rajapaksa said the next presidential election is still far away, and the government must first address pressing issues facing the people. He pointed to the difficulties faced by farmers, including those producing rice, sugarcane, and paddy, and criticized the government’s policy of importing food instead of supporting local agriculture.

He further claimed that the government is bowing to pressure from the diaspora, even in matters related to LTTE terrorism, while also mishandling issues of national security.

Commenting on internal conflicts within the government, Rajapaksa said he had not engaged with the National People’s Power (NPP) or other groups but stressed that any such disputes should be resolved. “Every government in history has fallen due to internal conflicts,” he added.
