Namal Rajapaksa briefs ITAK General Secretary on opposition rally

Colombo, Nov. 15 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa said he met Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran to brief him on the 21st public rally organised by the opposition against the National People’s Power (NPP) government.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Rajapaksa said the discussion focused on the government's failure to fulfil its pledges and the key issues the opposition intends to highlight at the rally. He noted that although ITAK would not be participating, it was important to keep the party informed as a key component of the opposition.

Rajapaksa added that both he and Sumanthiran agreed on the need to hold the long-delayed provincial council elections without further postponement. He stressed that conducting these elections in accordance with the Constitution is vital for strengthening local governance.
