Colombo, Nov. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The National College of Education on Technology (NCOET), Kuliyapitiya was officially inaugurated today (3) under the patronage of Prime Minister and Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Minster Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Amarasuriya said the institution was established through a partnership between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The Faculty aims to train qualified technical teachers to provide education in Engineering Technology, Biosystems Technology, and Information Technology for G.C.E. Advanced Level students.
Highlighting the potential of the resource-rich site, the Minister noted that it would support vocational education in line with ongoing education reforms. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Institute of Education and KOICA, has provided a $15 million grant for construction and related services.
Under the first phase of the project, around 210 students are currently enrolled across three subject streams, with further enrollments planned for 2026. The campus features nine Biosystems laboratories, a Smart Lab, an e-library, multi-purpose buildings, and residential facilities for 630 students.
The inauguration ceremony in Kuliyapitiya, Narangalla, was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ms. Myeon Lee, KOICA Sri Lanka Director Yooli Lee, Commissioner of Colleges P.D. Iroshini K. Paranagama, and other officials.
The project marks a significant step in advancing technology education in Sri Lanka.
