Mysterious death of student hours before A/L exam

Colombo, Nov. 11 (Daily Mirror) - A 19-year-old schoolgirl who was due to sit for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination yesterday(10) was found dead in her bed early last morning at her home in Ihala Arawwala, Dambulla, police said.

The victim was identified as Tharushi Chamodi, a student of Dambulla National School, who was scheduled to sit for the A/L examination in the Biology stream .

According to police, Tharushi had been studying in her room on Sunday night (9) and had prepared all her materials for the exam before going to sleep. When her parents attempted to wake her up yesterday morning, she was unresponsive. Believing she had fainted, the family rushed her to the Dambulla Base Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on admission.

Hospital sources confirmed that the student had died several hours before being brought in.

Dambulla Police said that the cause of death remains undetermined pending a post-mortem examination, and investigations are continuing.
