Colombo, Sept. 26 (Daily Mirror) - Mount Lavinia Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara today rejected a request made on behalf of the complainant to arrest and take into custody individuals named as suspects, namely Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Mahinda Jayasinghe and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal, in connection with an alleged fraud involving a two-storied building on a coconut estate owned by the National Workers Institute.
It is alleged that a forged tax deed was prepared for the property, and tax worth Rs. 30 lakhs was paid fraudulently.
The magistrate’s decision follows a background in which the case file was submitted to the Attorney General for legal guidance on February 19, 2025, and investigations conducted so far by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Unit have not revealed sufficient evidence to establish that a criminal offense had been committed.
