Why this lady this ? No mother will do it ...now needy and poor people are living under abject poverty...people don't have food to eat and yet our politicians talk too much about economy...it would be better to use Indian rupees instead of ours to get rid of this economic crisis.

This is indeed a tragedy. The mother needs counselling and assistance to sustain her living. I hope that the authorities will look at this aspect as much as they are concerned about taking legal action.

What a sad state of affairs! It's a huge pressure on parents to look after differently abled children but when it's topped with economic hardships, people are pushed to resort to such terrible acts! No use punishing the mother; it's the duty of everyone to see to it that she's employed so she can fend for herself...

Stop reproduction for some time till the economic crisis comes to normal..No milk; no baby food and no food to to feed...how could mothers give food ..it is utterly a political failure... Couples in millions in Srilanka should protest against the government saying that they will not produce babies till the government give them some reliefs..... consider what Japan and other western countries do to increase their populations...our people don't know how to fool the government.but governments have been fooling people for more than 75 years now

Help her instead of legal action, many people are desperate and consider suicide as the only option, its the government's fault that as a country we suffer so much

It is easy for a parent in this situation to see no hope for her future. There is no access to free counseling for primary caregivers who are burnt out. There is even less help for those who have disabilities. Without support of some kind, it is very hard for parents in this situation. She needs help not prison time.
