More rain likely during the day

Showers will occur during the day in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Puttalam, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, the forecasting division of the National Meteorological Centre said.

They said fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts.

Several spells of showers may occur in the Hambantota and Kurunegala districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Batticaloa, Ampara districts during the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds up to 45 kmph can be expected at times on the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central, and north-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
