Ministers and MPs have made a huge dedication by paying PAYE tax at this critical juncture where Rs. 241,000 has been deducted from the salary and fuel allowances of a Minister and Rs. 90,000 from an MP, Minister and leader of the House Susil Premajayantha said today.

He told Parliament that Ministers and MPs who live outstation, such as in Badulla, Ampara have faced difficulties to attend Parliament sessions as their fuel allowances have been subject to PAYE tax.

"No one is talking about the dedication we have made," he said.

The Minister said if the PAYE tax was not imposed, the government would not have been able to pay the salary of public sector employees. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

    William Thursday, 23 February 2023 11:02 AM

Very strange! We thought all allowances were exempted from PAYE. If so, pls reveal the exact amount deducted then we can compare. Educated people fooling the masses all the time.

If you are paying PAYE tax of Rs241,000, I guess per month, what is your enrings (Salary and other benefits) from public money per month?

Felix De Mel Thursday, 23 February 2023 11:28 AM

Just work backwards. If the tax was 241,000 what would have been the full income. Around 800,000 a month. ?? Earlier they said they get a salary of Rs. 100,000 only.

    citizen Thursday, 23 February 2023 12:56 PM

This is simple for ministers because Deducting pay tax they will earn by U-turn easy money , this pay tax deduction is nuts for them,

Mohamed Razik Thursday, 23 February 2023 01:27 PM

You can fool some of the people some of the time but NOT all of the people all of the time. We, the people, must be duds to believe our politicos. May God save the pearl of the Indian ocean.

As you say your taxing us to pay public sector salaries but no attempt has been made to fix the bloated public sector. Fix that and you don't need to tax us. The less workers in public sector then the more there will be in the private which generates real income to the country. Not difficult is it.

    Ram Thursday, 23 February 2023 02:07 PM

And also collecting Commissions without paying tax.

Preshi Rem Thursday, 23 February 2023 02:47 PM

We are tired of your dedication to ruining this country. Why don’t all of you just resign?

    ravin Thursday, 23 February 2023 02:59 PM

Ha haa!! wondering which side we must laugh. How long do you all think you can fool us ??

Bernard Jayatilake Thursday, 23 February 2023 04:14 PM

To show their dedication to the country, if they are genuine, I challenge them to use public transport system to go anywhere even to hell as they will not escape the wrath of the ordinary man.

    NIghtOwl Thursday, 23 February 2023 05:11 PM

To have a deduction of 241, one should have a pay benefits of 878,000/=. Imagine this into 225 for 12 months. that is Rs. 2.37billion.

    Shera Thursday, 23 February 2023 05:24 PM

Dedication? That's not a word in any minister's vocabulary. Just a drop in the ocean when they are making millions under the table.

Kumar Dissa Thursday, 23 February 2023 06:32 PM

Why can't the MPs use public transport like the rest of the population?

Jana Panagala Friday, 24 February 2023 08:21 AM

Yes, after stealing billions and billions of dollars not rupees.

Hats Marnis Friday, 24 February 2023 01:55 PM

This moron thinks only MP’s are the only people paying PAYE taxes, Every body working for an employer is paying PAYE taxes. Don’t you understand the pain of other people,
