Migrant boat sinks in English Channel; one dead, 50 rescued

One person has died and five others are said to be in "serious" conditions after a boat carrying migrants sank in the English Channel.

A joint rescue operation by the British and French coastguards has rescued 50 people, authorities said.

A number of people were seen being brought off a lifeboat on stretchers in Dover. The extent of the other injuries is unclear.

The RNLI said a lifeboat crew was launched just before 04:00 BST.

France's Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea said six people were taken by helicopter to a hospital in Calais with one person later pronounced dead.

The UK Home Office has been approached for comment.

As of 10 August, 15,826 people have crossed the Channel in a small boat this year.(BBC)

The new British Home Secretary ( Minister in charge of the Police, Intelligence, National Security , Law and Order, and immigration) is a half Tamil and half Goan female Barrister. She hates Indians ( because of the IPKF)and the Muslims; and considers herself more whiter than the real whites. Her extreme anti-immigration policies to deter illegal immigrants is unprecedented in British history, that includes deliberate slow response from the cost guard when these boats get into difficulties and start to sink.

If the UK and EU make their territories a fortress and seal themselves off from other countries with harsh immigration laws then they must also ensure that wannabe immigrants are unable to take such boat trips in the Channel and the Mediterranean.

UK is not a rich nation to house migrants. It is sad migrants get into a miserable end after paying huge sums to human smugglers .

Whether the new home secretary is half Tamil and the other half Goaanese is besides the point. She is a British citizen by her own choice. She is in charge of protecting the sovereign borders of the country which is her home now. She is absolutely correct in doing her job. Illegal immigration will destroy many Western countries, all for the love of wealth by those who are entrusted to safeguard their nation. I hope the British people will take back their great country and welcome all legitimate migration they require to uplift their nation.
