Medical specialists meet President, express frustration over solutions

Colombo, Nov. 18 (Daily Mirror) - Representatives of the Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today to discuss a series of long-standing issues affecting medical specialists.

AMS officials highlighted what they described as “decades of unresolved injustices,” pointing to unfair service placements, persistent pay disparities, and the lack of adequate professional training facilities. T

hey stressed that the situation has left many specialists demotivated and struggling to meet professional expectations under increasingly difficult conditions.

The AMS also expressed frustration over what it said were unfulfilled pledges made in the 2026 Budget, including the revision of transport allowances and the introduction of a fair overtime payment structure.

In response, President Dissanayake assured the representatives that the salary issue would be resolved by mid-January 2026, adding that the government remains committed to addressing the concerns raised by the country’s medical specialists.
