Media Law Forum relaunches 24/7 legal hotline for environmental journalists

Colombo, Nov 06 (Daily Mirror) - The Media Law Forum (MLF) has relaunched its 24/7 Emergency Legal Hotline dedicated to providing immediate legal assistance to environmental journalists in Sri Lanka.

The initiative aims to strengthen protections for journalists reporting on environmental issues, who often face legal intimidation, harassment, and other forms of pressure in the course of their work.

Available around the clock in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, the hotline offers journalists rapid access to legal advice, court representation, and advocacy support. It also seeks to raise awareness about available legal resources and reinforce MLF’s broader commitment to defending press freedom.

The hotline prioritises cases involving environmental reporting, ensuring that support is tailored to the specific challenges journalists face in this field.

“The relaunch is a renewed commitment to ensuring environmental journalists can report freely and safely,” MLF stated, adding that continuous support helps promote transparency and accountability in environmental governance.

Journalists in need of assistance can contact the Emergency Legal Hotline at 074 30 70 888, available 24/7 in all three languages.
