Measuring the performance of children alone is not enough; measuring the performance of officials as well as politicians is also an essential factor in the development of a country, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

Addressing the media, he said the duties for the new year should be started with commitment along with new duty lists.

"It is very important to focus on achieving the sustainable development goals of providing quality education to all and promoting students' school attendance by being able to instill confidence in students and parents about the quality of the teacher who goes to the classroom," the minister said.

The minister also said that when the year 2024 begins, everyone should work differently from the existing system and pass on its benefits to the future generations so that they can look back and be happy in the year 2023. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

If it is adopted to gage your performance you would have failed hundreds of times . When you were holding petroleum ministry by importing substandard fuel vehicles got stalled on the roads trains got stalled on the railway tracks, then when you held the education ministry answer scripts of A level examination were found in the paddy fields. If it is in a another country you will be counting the iron bars of the cell you are being imprisoned

Measuring performance alone would not be sufficient. It should follow with actions. If you manage the full performance monitoring cycle - most of the politicians will not be at their positions any more. Sadly, same as many other areas including the rule of law - these will not apply to the politicians and their connections. This is one reason, why our country is where it is today.

It is very interesting to note your comment!. Why don't you list the criteria you propose to evaluate the performance of politicians. I propose one criteria! Compare their net worth at the beginning of year with their net worth at the end of the year including spouse(s) and relatives. I assure you that every one of them will fail the test. Also please suggest what you propose to do, to those who failed the test. Those who remain in the end, can be counted with fingers on the hand.

Measuring the performance of officials and all Sri Lankan diplomats engaged in our foreign missions abroad is also very necessary. The President's Secretariat and the FM should put in motion a administrative mechanism that can get this working with the Sri Lankan expatriate community and so-called diaspora domiciled abroad. Except for 2 or 3 diplomats and a very few officials, the rest are just enjoying life in these foreign countries at the cost of the Sri Lankan Tax payers and foreign exchange earners for the country. The media should also publish the bungling's made by these officials that have been detrimental to the country in general.
