Colombo, Dec. 4 (Daily Mirror) - The sale, storage, and slaughter of beef, goat, and pork have been banned in Mannar District for one week, starting from December 3, to prevent contaminated meat from entering the market, Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association Chairman Pradeep Boralessa said.
He added that public health inspectors across the country are monitoring the situation to ensure that the bodies of animals that died during recent flood disasters are not sold or transported for human consumption.
Boralessa urged the public to report any such cases to the Public Health Inspector in their area. If this is not possible, information can be provided through the Ministry of Health’s Disaster Management Unit hotline at 1926, which operates 24 hours a day.
