Mawanella, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - A 53-year-old individual has died in a police shooting while attempting to resolve a dispute in Padiyadora in Mawanella last night.

According to the police, the Mawanella Police were alerted to a dispute in Padiyadora and dispatched officers to investigate the situation.

During the investigation, one person involved in the dispute reportedly assaulted a police officer with a sharp weapon.

In response, another officer fired a warning shot to restore order. However, when the assailant continued to pose a threat by attempting to attack the officer, the officer fired again, resulting in the fatal injury of the suspect's father, who was involved in the altercation.

Police mis fires a lot these days and always shoot the wrong person and start looking for the suspect. Don't worry those suspects are always linked to police and an innocent will pay the price.

What a tragedy. The suspect will live with this for the rest of his life.

What a legal case is this? Can policeman shoot like this in self defence? What does law say? Safety of all policemen are important as the safety of public ? However; did this policeman act within limit of law ??? But in situation like this they too need to take some swift action beyond letters of law ? Here Law VS human consciousness

Sri Lanka must adapt its police training to modern standards common in UK or Germany. Basic police training should last 3 years. A passed A-level, or better a university diploma, must be a basic requirement for the police service. In addition to a knowledge and intelligence test, a sports and health test, the entrance examination must also include a psychological test. There is currently no training in psychology ,de-escalation and in behavior in stressful situations at the police college. There is also no training in human rights and communication which enables them to talk to all kind of people in all 3 languages. After such training, a monthly police service allowance of at least LKR 150,000 must be paid, in addition to the normal salary. Promotions must be based on performance and not seniority. Police officers who do not keep fit and exceed a set weight limit based on their height must be fired. Politicians who interfere in police matters must be severely punished.

In custody is the person is arrested. However in this case, they were still being investigating and this tragedy occurred as the suspect and father were involved in an altercation.

No Worries. If killed by Police shooting the victim is at fault and Police are innocent. Please give the Police body cameras. In the retail market each may cost about $20-25. When buying in bulk it will be much less.

IS IT the case, that present day policeman doesn't have ability to properly AIM??? or Bad Training!!! Police Training standard procedure or code, in the first instance shoot below the KNEE, in order to INCAPACITATE the OFFENDER, and ONLY if the offender CONTINUES to be a threat, they are permitted, shoot above KNEE!!!??? Why did this shooting happen any other way, with Mortal Injury!!!??? This type of “OVERKILL”, situation has arisen after the “HUMANITARIAN WAR” initiated by the Messiah and Sibling in Cahoots/Tandem!!!??? One can imagine how ‘HUMANITARIAN’ they were in WAR!? What a Tragedy or Comedy!? Am CONFUSED!!!! The ‘line’ between “BARBARISM and HUMANISM”, is indeed very FLIMSY, THIN AND APPEARS VERY NEGLIGIBLE, NON-EXISTENT!!!??? Well done SL Police, annual commendation, being Listed!!??
