Man arrested in Jaffna with Kerala cannabis worth Rs. 43 mn

A man was arrested with 130 kgs of Kerala cannabis valued at over Rs. 43 million at street value, on the seas off Uduththurei, Jaffna last night, the Sri Lanka Navy said.

They said the man was arrested during a search operation conducted by the Northern Naval Command off Uduththurei.

They recovered about 130 kgs and 600 gms (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis in 61 parcels which had been stuffed in three sacks when a dinghy was inspected.

Accordingly, the stock of Kerala cannabis, the dinghy and a suspect in connection with the incident were taken into naval custody.

The suspect age 44, held in the operation is a resident of Uduththurei in Jaffna. The suspect along with the Kerala cannabis and the dinghy was handed over to the Maruthankerny Police for legal action, the Sri Lanka Navy said.

Use of cannabis 100-50 gram approved for use in Germany for pleasure smocking, why not follow the same here? It is a medicinal plant, good for digestive system. Request German Embassy to elicit on this. An illusive fear has been created by certain sections against the use of cannabis in Sri Lanka.

Karalasingam Siivalingam! No use trying to justify use of Cannabis, just because 130 kg was captured in Jaffna. If the Police power was given to Local bodies, this may not be a news item. We don't have Red Light area, just because Bombay has it.

Why the name Kerala cannabis used .i am from Kerala and it is not growing here . It was planted in the middle of think forget almost 30 years ago now no such things exists here .Now a days it comes from Andrapradesh to Kerala and other parts of India and abroad . May be need the change the name to Andra cannabis
