Malaysian Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka

Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from October 08 to 12, 2023, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said.

During the visit, the Malaysian Foreign Minister is scheduled to have bilateral discussions with his Sri Lankan counterpart Ali Sabry at the Foreign Ministry and pay courtesy calls on President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Malaysian minister will be accompanied by Under Secretary of South and Central Asia Division (SCA) Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman, Under Secretary of the OIC and Regional Cooperation Division (ORCD) Ahmad Kamrizamil Mohd Riza and Special Officer to the Foreign Minister Abdilbar Ab Rashid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.

During the visit, the Malaysian delegation will also participate in the 25th meeting of the Committee of IORA Senior Officials (9-10 October) and the 23rd IORA Council of Ministers (11 October) in Colombo.

Can we ask him to regularise the status of our kallathonis working in Malaysia. I met a maid in KL who told me her passport was taken by her agent who facilitated her illegal journey and who she has lost contact with and she doesn’t leave her employers compound for fear of being caught. Some employers pay the approx Ringint 7000 that it costs in bribes and fees to regularise the stay of a kallathoni. One person who I know declined to pay saying she can’t stop the maid leaving for better pay after paying to regularise her stay, so the agent took her away saying someone else was willing to do so

Like Singapore, it would be good if Malaysia and Sri Lanka allow its citizens VISA on arrival for short stay purposes.

Maybe someone should ask him why young Malaysians including those of Chinese, Indian descent including majority Muslim Malays who are privileged and have more benefits than other communities who when arriving or in Australia are asking for protection visas that is asylum. This is why a specific Malaysian age group is having a lot of Australian visa applications rejected. More than 99% of all applications are rejected, but the process takes 3 years and during the process they can work and entitled to state medical benefits
