Make Christmas deeply spiritual through love and concern for those in needy: Cardinal

Colombo, Dec. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today urged all Catholics in the Archdiocese and in Sri Lanka to make this year’s Christmas deeply spiritual through concern for the needy and those who have been affected by the recent disaster.

“How could we celebrate with externals when thousands of our fellow citizens are without their loved ones buried under rubble due to earth slips, in refugee centers, and without any of their belongings except for the clothes they were wearing at the time they had to flee the flood waters. Hence, I would like to appeal to all our faithful to desist from the celebrations that are marked by merry-making, extravagance or unconcerned waste on externals during this Christmas season,” the Cardinal said in a special statement.

"Celebrate Christmas but but do it with deeply spiritual thoughts, love and concern for those in need,” he added.
