Colombo, April 30 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Mahindananda  Aluthgamage was today acquitted and released from the money laundering case by the Colombo High Court.

The Attorney General had filed this case against Aluthgamage for allegedly purchasing a house worth Rs. 27 million at Kynsey Road, Colombo 7 over a complaint that he had allegedly purchased properties through illegally acquired money for committing a predicate offence coming under the Bribery Act.

Colombo High Court Judge   Navaratne Marasinghe held that the prosecution has failed to prove the accused' guilt beyond reasonable doubts.

When Mahinananda Aluthgamage visited Ranil several occasions to his residence, we knew it is for a reason. Last month every Tuesdays he had an appointment with RW in a secret room. Yes, now Ranil saved him from all court cases against him interfering with the judicial. Then where the law stands in SriLanka.

    Onlooker Tuesday, 30 April 2024 04:09 PM

Yes the verdict made easy by CIABOC filing half baked cases leaving loopholes to fool us. This was a yahapalaya tactic. All cases filed so far have been acquittals.

DID THE INVESTIGATION GO THROUGH ALL HIS BANK STATEMENT RECORDS AND WAS HE ABLE TO CONFIRM WHERE THE PROCEEDS CAME FROM, PROOF OF THE FUNDS ACCUMILATED IN HIS ACCOUNT/S OVER A PERIOD OF YEARS AND WHERE THIS MONEY WAS HELD PRIOR TO PURCHASE. ANOTHER SCUMBAG OFF THE HOOK

    Ram Tuesday, 30 April 2024 04:51 PM

Few years back it transpired in his Divorce case how he started life as a Sales Rep and his assets at the time of the Divorce as a politician. I cannot see how he explained LKR 27 Million to purchase a house. Further it appear to me that the house is undervalued. I wonder if the case was prosecuted with a will to receive a conviction?

Monthly Salary slips proves his innocence! Tuesday, 30 April 2024 05:14 PM

By the way Did Mahindananda provide salary slips to courts to prove that he amassed the 27 million legally, without spending a single rupee even for food or tea? What a thrifty man, who can set an example to all other MPs? Was he not responsible to prove he is innocent?

It all depends on which side of the isle you sit in parliament. It’s all a fix.

    cineha Tuesday, 30 April 2024 08:35 PM

Yesterday it was Vas Gunawardane. Today its Mahindananda. Now the CIABOC and the AG's department have two choices before them. Apologize to the acquitted politicians for implicating them without sufficient evidence or tender an apology to the general public for not having the will to prosecute politicians.

we seems to have a purposely useless Attorney Generals office when it comes to prosecuting corrupt politicians....hope soon the Attorney Generals office will have to answer for these lost cases and persons there punished to the full extent of the law...
