Whoops. Looks like the trade unions cannot strike because Electricity and Fuel charges are not going to increase. Time for them to find another reason to get to the streets and waste time.

Banda Iya Thursday, 21 December 2023 02:54 PM

Grow up man. In which country you are living? Electricity and fuel charges will be increase later on at an unexpected time.

    Premkumar Friday, 22 December 2023 12:17 AM

Not for diesel and petrol, SLEx happy spending

    Dee Thursday, 21 December 2023 02:32 PM

What about Sajith and Harsha. RW must be LOL. Both miles away from RW on economic reform matters.

    Grace Thursday, 21 December 2023 03:12 PM

This clearly indicates that an election will be held definitely. Our politicians can fool some people some days and many people some days but they can't fool all the people all days

    Anjsri12 Thursday, 21 December 2023 04:39 PM

Heart Broken ? For Ratu sarodarayas?? Oh some people think they are wise all the days and rest are foolish all the time

    Gamini Thursday, 21 December 2023 03:53 PM

Grace- You are wrong. Our politicians have been doing exactly that for the last 75 years and will continue to do so

    Mohan Thursday, 21 December 2023 06:32 PM

It says crude petroleum oil. What about refined oils like petrol, diesel and kerosene?

    Dee Thursday, 21 December 2023 09:43 PM

    Ammapa!

    Dan Friday, 22 December 2023 01:56 AM

Even one item included in additional VAT is a huge economic problem in present circumstances for most. Unfortunately some try to applaud the President for not including few items in additional VAT.

    Terrence K Friday, 22 December 2023 08:38 AM

Public do not be too complacent as these gimmicks have been played in the past only the 6.9 mn buffaloes will fall for these hoodwinking tricks to divert their attention with the oncoming elections!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sal Friday, 22 December 2023 08:59 AM

Why not collect the taxes, loans, etc and give relief to the masses or is there a cut taken by the concerned authorities

    SLEx Friday, 22 December 2023 03:54 PM

@Banda @Premkumar: I am more than happy to pay my fair share and live according to the capabilities of my income if that is the case. If its not enough, I will improve my skills and get a better paying job. I will not wait for the Govt to give me subsidies so I can live a comfortable life for myself. All our citizens have been so comfortable living off tax payers and foreign loans that paying true cost of utilities is surprising to them. VAT exemption wouldn't be a election gimmick Removing VAT completely would be a election gimmick. Also the levys applied for fuel is removed and replaced by VAT. So no, the price is not going to sky rocket.
