Colombo, Nov. 7 (Daily Mirror) - A retail liquor store (Excise RB 04) in Ja-Ela has been sealed by excise officers for selling alcohol on Poya Day, in violation of excise regulations.
The raid was carried out on November 5, during a surprise inspection by the Ja-Ela Excise Office. Officials said further investigations are underway, and legal action will be taken against those responsible.
The operation was conducted with the approval of the Commissioner General of Excise and on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner of Excise Law Enforcement Tissa Kumara Rajapaksa and Assistant Commissioner of Excise (Western Province III) Roshan Perera.
The sealing was carried out under the supervision of Ja-Ela Excise Superintendent Jayasanka, with the support of Chief Excise Inspector Kala Rasika Wijesinghe, Excise Inspector Rasika Weerasinghe, Excise Corporals Bandara and Mintaka, Women’s Excise Corporal Deepthi, Excise Controller Supun, and Excise Driver Dhanushka.
The Excise Department said it is taking strict action against illegal liquor sales and urged the public to report such offences to the department.
