Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - Suspect attorney arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the murder of an individual named Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside a Colombo Magistrate’s Court was today produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The suspect, Attorney-at-Law Thamara Kumari Aberathna, who had been held under a six-month detention order, was remanded till May 7 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
On a request by counsel appearing for the suspect, the Magistrate directed prison authorities to provide special protection to her while in custody.
Furthermore, based on facts presented before court today, the Magistrate instructed the CID to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the bank accounts allegedly maintained using a forged identity card and to report back to court.
The Magistrate also directed that a report be submitted compiling evidence in relation to the possibility of filing charges against the suspect under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
