Largest supermoon of the year to be visible tonight

Colombo, Nov. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies has announced that a supermoon will be visible tonight, appearing noticeably larger and brighter than a regular full moon.

The institute said the supermoon will be about 14% larger and shine roughly 30% brighter. Such events occur several times a year when the moon’s elliptical orbit brings it closer to the Earth—about 356,980 km away this time.

Today’s full moon, the largest supermoon of the year, may also cause higher-than-usual tides along coastal areas. Supermoons can occur during both full and new moon phases.
