Kuliyapitiya Crimes OIC transferred after assault video goes viral

Colombo, Dec. 17 (Daily Mirror)- The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crimes Branch of the Kuliyapitiya Police Station has been transferred with immediate effect following the circulation of a video on social media showing an assault involving the officer.

According to police, investigations into the video, which depicts an individual being attacked with a stick, revealed that the person carrying out the assault was the OIC of the Kuliyapitiya Police Station’s Crimes Branch.

In response, a formal investigation has been launched under the supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, with direct oversight from the Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the North Western Province.

Police said the officer concerned has been transferred from the Kuliyapitiya Police Station to the Mawathagama Police Station. 

They said that disciplinary action will be taken following the completion of the investigation.
