Korea pledges USD 500,000 in emergency relief for Sri Lanka’s cyclone-hit communities



The Government of the Republic of Korea has pledged USD 500,000 to support emergency relief efforts in Sri Lanka following the severe impact of tropical cyclone Ditwah.

According to an official announcement, the funds will be channelled through the World Food Programme (WFP) to assist affected families in the most severely impacted districts including Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Kurunegala, Kandy, Trincomalee and Mannar. The assistance aims to provide essential supplies and meet the immediate needs of vulnerable communities.

Korean President H.E. Lee Jae Myung extended his condolences to Sri Lankan President H.E. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the cyclone. He stated that the people of Korea join Sri Lanka in grief during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Korean Foreign Minister H.E. Cho Hyun conveyed his sympathies to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Hon. Vijitha Herath, assuring that Korea stands firmly with Sri Lanka and wishing for a strong and swift recovery.

Joining the messages of solidarity, Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka H.E. Miyon Lee said the financial support reflects the longstanding ties between the two nations and is intended to aid rehabilitation efforts and help communities return to normalcy.
